Ag Day Celebration

The Fayette County Farm Bureau’s Ag Day celebration was held at Fayette Mall in Lexington, KY on March 23, 2013.
Folks stopping by were given materials on the contributions of agriculture in everyday lives. Visitors engaged in a “spin the wheel” contest in which their knowledge of common agriculture facts were tested and rewarded! Small souvenirs of tractors, barns, lip balm, pens and other items with the Fayette County Farm Bureau’s website inscribed were distributed.

On display was a Kabota RTV from Central Equipment.

Fayette County Spelling Bee
  • February 22, 2013

Austin Booth, a 7th grader at Lexington Traditional Middle School won the Fayette County Spelling Bee on February 19, 2013. Austin competed against 68 other youth from public, private, parochial and home schools across Fayette County and was awarded with a trophy and $75.00 cash.

Fayette County Farm Bureau sponsored the county wide spelling bee for all students in grades four through eight. The Spelling Bee was held at the Fayette County Cooperative Extension Office. The Spelling Bee is recognized state-wide, sponsored by Kentucky Farm Bureau & the Kentucky Derby Festival.

Second place was awarded to Julia Radhadrishnan, a 7th grade home school student. Third place was awarded to Shashank Bhatt, a 6th grader from Winburn Middle School. Both received medallions and cash prizes.

Austin will represent Fayette County at the Kentucky Derby Festival State Spelling Bee on March 9, 2013 at the PNC Club at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium in Louisville, KY.

Kentucky Proud Basket Presentation

Fayette County Farm Bureau presented a Kentucky Proud basket to thank Tim Thornberry in recognition of Media Appreciation. Tim is a freelance writer who contributes many articles on agriculture related issues and events. Locust Trace Agriscience Teacher to Travel to Indonesia

Fayette County Farm Bureau sponsored Locust Trace Agriscience teacher, Rebecca Russell, to participate in an international trip to study and research agricultural practices in Indonesia.

First Aid Kits Awarded

Two of Fayette County Farm Bureau members happily show off their new first-aid kits presented at the monthly board meeting on September 20th. The kits were given in recognition of National Farm Safety and Health Week.

Flu Vaccine Clinic

People gather and register for a flu vaccine clinic sponsored by Fayette County Farm Bureau. Urgent Treatment Clinic dispersed the vaccine to individuals wanting to get a head start on the flu season. This flu vaccine clinic was held on September 20, 2012 in recognition of National Farm Safety and Health Week. A big thanks to Urgent Treatment Clinic for coming out to make this a success!

Fayette County 4-H/FFA Livestock Sale

Once again Fayette County Farm Bureau was a sponsor of Fayette County 4-H/ FFA Livestock Sale. A delicious meal was served prior to the sale and then the bidding ensued. This was a most enjoyable event and Fayette County Farm Bureau is proud to be a supporter 4-H and FFA.

Fayette County Partners with Marksbury Foods

Fayette County Farm Bureau has joined on with Marksbury Farm Market as a community club coordinator. Marksbury Farm Market is a small scale locally owned butcher shop, farm market and processing facility located in Garrard County. They partner with local farmers who share their commitment to sustainable, humane, and natural production methods. They use traditional and modern methods to deliver an array of high quality, healthy, and fresh products.

Humane Society Donation

humane society donation 2010 (Custom)    Fayette County Farm Bureau recently made a donation of $1700 to the Lexington Humane Society. The funding came in part from proceeds that were collected at our Annual Meeting this fall as well as an additional donation made by our Board.
