The summer outing for KFB’s young farmers and their families was based in Pikeville and featured a variety of fun-filled activities. Foremost was some outdoor adventures such as a zip line, horseback riding and rafting. And as always, there were several tours of area attractions.

There also was business to attend to. After the first rounds of the Discussion Meet, four finalists emerged to compete in the finals at the KFB annual meeting in December. The “final four” are Randy Adams of Anderson County, Kyle Kelley of Owen County, Mary Courtney of Shelby County and Cody Rakes of Fayette County.

Finalists in the Outstanding Young Farm Family also were announced. They are Scott and Shea Lowe of Calloway County, Brad and Karen Hines of Hart County, and Wesley and Jennifer Poole of Daviess County.

The state winners of the discussion meet and OYFF will represent KFB in the national contests at AFBF’s annual meeting in January.

KFB President Mark Haney was on hand along with his wife, Marlene. He kicked off the second day with an address in which he emphasized the importance of the young farmer program. “I think you will find that our board significantly wants to do whatever we can for the young farmer program,” he said.

The traditional “Eggs and Issues” breakfast featured a briefing from KFB Public Affairs specialist Bryan Alvey. Following that, the young farmers assembled by districts for a policy development session.

The event attracted around 280 from 62 counties.
