Statement by Bob Stallman, President, American Farm Bureau Federation, regarding delay of the Health-Law Employer Mandate

Posted on Jul 3, 2013
“Delay of the employer mandate in the Affordable Care Act by one year will allow the administration to streamline the process for complying and provide farm employers with the information they need to follow the law.

“Many farmers have been confused from the ‘get go’ about their obligations under the ACA because they employ a workforce that is both seasonal and transitory. The proposed rules regarding what farm employers need to do to comply are complex, raising many questions about responsibility under the law.

“Farmers need access to high-quality, affordable health care for themselves and their workers. Unfortunately, questions about how the ACA will help them attain this have been many, while at the same time definitive answers have been hard to come by. We commend the administration for addressing this issue and look forward to simpler direction so that farm employers will know what they have to do to comply with this law.”
