Outstanding Youth Heads to Washington D.C.
Posted on Mar 2, 2015Hi! I'm Lilly Robertson from the Logan County Farm Bureau, this years Female Outstanding Youth Contest Winner. I live on my family farm in Franklin, where we have row crops, dairy, and beef. I attend Franklin Simpson High School (I'm a junior!) where I pretty much live in the FFA/Ag department but also participate in BETA Club, and Academic Team. Outside of school I'm active in my church as well as the Farm Bureau.
Winning the Outstanding Youth Contest has opened countless doors for me. I was asked to speak at multiple engagements, including the Simpson Co. Farm City Breakfast, the Logan Co Chamber Ag Appreciation Breakfast, and the UK Extension 100 year celebration. I also had the opportunity to attend the American Young Farmers Fusion Conference where I learned advocacy skills and made nationwide networking connections.
The highlight of being the Farm Bureau Outstanding Youth however, is the Congressional Tour. On the tour, I met with Congressmen, toured Washington DC, and learned more about our government and the promotion of agriculture than any class in school could ever teach. My favorite parts of the trip included Issues Briefing, Congressional Breakfast,Congressmen Rogers' tour of the Capitol building, and the Mt. Vernon tour.
I want to thank Kentucky Farm Bureau for giving me the opportunity to experience all these things. I look forward to representing Farm Bureau at the Kentucky State Fair in August!
