National Agriculture Day Event Highlights Kentucky-sourced Beef

Posted on Mar 20, 2018

FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 20, 2018) – In honor of National Agriculture Day, the Governor’s Office of Agricultural Policy joined Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles, Beef Solutions, LLC and Kroger today to mark the launch of Kentucky Cattlemen’s ground beef available at select Kentucky Kroger locations.

“What a fitting way to celebrate National Agriculture Day, by highlighting a project that exemplifies coordination and ingenuity of Kentucky’s farmers and agribusinesses,” Warren Beeler, GOAP executive director, said. “The Kentucky Agricultural Development Board is excited to be a partner with Beef Solutions, The Chop Shop, and Creation Gardens in connecting our Kentucky beef producers with the meat case. This project prepares Kentucky for the next farm-ready product teaching lessons about food safety, processing, packaging, labeling and doing business with a retail grocer. Beef, it’s what for dinner and now it’s local, Kentucky Proud and at Kroger.”

In May 2017, Beef Solutions, LLC received a grant from the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund (KADF) to establish a Kentucky ground beef supply management project with Kroger. One-pound packages, as well as two-pound (four patties) packages, are now available at 85 select stores across the state.

Beef Solutions, LLC works in conjunction with KADF funded projects, The Chop Shop, in Hazel Green, and Creation Gardens, Inc., in Louisville, to produce the fresh and natural 80/20 ground beef product from Kentucky-sourced cattle. It is expected that every Kentucky farm family producing beef will be impacted by this project.

“We are proud and excited to provide fresh, natural beef sourced from Kentucky farm families,” Beef Solutions Chairman and cattleman Jeff Pettit stated. “As the largest cattle producing state east of the Mississippi, we are prepared and dedicated to offering local ground beef to consumers across the state.”

Produced by local farmers, processed and packaged in Kentucky facilities, and distributed to local Kroger stores, this product is now available for purchase by Kentucky families all across the state. Support Kentucky agriculture and pick up some ground beef today.
