Market Update - May 16, 2014

Posted on May 16, 2014
CBOT futures are trading mixed with weather still putting pressure on corn and wheat futures.  New crop soybean futures are holding that market up after a large export sale for 2014-15. KC/MGE wheat are again losing against CBOT wheat with the KC-CBOT spread down to 94 cents.

Interestingly, the July and December Corn and the July CBOT Wheat are so far respecting the key chart support levels.  It will be key how these markets close today.

Cattle futures are trading narrowly mixed ahead of this afternoon’s Cattle on Feed Report.  Although cash cattle prices weakened Thursday, boxed beef is up 1.50 at midday.   The May Feeder Cattle contract hit another contract high.

Lean Hog futures are down in the higher-priced summer contracts as their premium to the soft cash market price melts away. FOB Plant Pork is down 0.45 to 112.78/cwt.
