Market Update - July 3, 2014

Posted on Jul 3, 2014
The CBOT is a mixed bag today ahead of the long weekend with markets closing at Noon today. The same pattern as yesterday seems to be occurring with the funds liquidating old-crop soybean longs and wheat futures seeing some short-covering. Traders will pick up on Monday with new weather forecasts to see if there is any threat at all to corn pollination through mid-July. Outside markets are negative with a stronger US dollar and lower energy prices.

Cattle futures are seeing follow-through buying after the cash cattle markets traded a couple dollars higher yesterday. August LC futures are working to keep up with cash price. At midday, boxed beef is up a dollar/cwt. Lean Hogs are little changed in the nearby August but the deferred LH futures continue to see buying on the smaller market hog inventory expected to be marketed this fall. Midday pork values are up slightly.

A strong jobs report this morning is driving Treasury yields and stocks higher (new records).
