CBOT futures closed mixed in reaction to the midday USDA Crop Report and WASDE updates. The U.S. average yield of 168.0 bu/ac was about a bushel over expectations. Lower acreage limited the impact of the higher corn yield on the production estimate. The funds sold part of the long position they had been building of late. Soybean futures managed small gains as USDA data was mixed – some friendly, some negative – but the funds have had a friendly bias. November Soybeans had a 15-cent range as prices hit lows right before the Report and then soared with the USDA news, but then lost about half of those gains by the close. Wheat futures were pressured by larger ending stocks estimates than expected.

KY has 175.0 bu/ac corn and 49.0 bu/ac soybeans.

Cattle futures closed mostly higher, sustaining this week’s strong price recovery off the contract lows. The cash cattle and boxed beef markets still weigh on the market. Choice down 0.61 at 203.00; Select up 0.43 at 197.89

Lean Hog futures closed lower after rallying on the open. The LH charts are developing defined overhead resistance which also appears on the weekly continuation chart. Cash markets were not supportive today. FOB Plant Pork dropped .24 to 88.58.
