CBOT futures closed mostly lower as traders positioned themselves for tomorrow’s latest crop production estimates and US/World supply-demand estimates. Traders on average expect USDA to lower corn and soybean yield just a touch. However, soybean ending stocks could increase if export projections are cut. Soybean exports to China are running nearly 95% behind the year-ago pace. Soybean futures closed lower for the third straight day. Wheat futures lost several cents today, but ended up close to last Friday’s settlement prices. The speculative funds are long corn futures and short soybeans.

Live cattle futures were slightly lower beyond the nearby December LC contract which gained 67 cents. The cash market was lightly traded at prices below last week’s average. Boxed beef values also weakened. Choice Beef dropped .54 to 218.22 and Select fell 2.89 to 201.77 (this erased yesterday’s gains).

Lean hog futures were mostly higher, helping to erase part of Tuesday’s sharp losses. Fundamentals were not supportive as FOB Plant Pork dropped 1.33 to 72.75 (loin value fell 3%).

U.S. equities rallied sharply after the election created a divided Congress. Gasoline futures traded higher overnight but fell 3% by the close.
