Tonight’s crop condition ratings showed essentially no change on average for corn and soybeans in the 18-major states. This is probably a little better than traders expected. CBOT futures fell sharply on prospects of huge crops in the U.S. this fall given the above normal crop condition and favorable weather forecasts.

Livestock futures closed mixed but well off the highs set this morning. Profit-taking is credited for the smaller gains. Boxed beef values closed nearly unchanged from last week with Choice at 248.18. FOB Plant Pork closed only .32 higher at 134.52. Gains in loins and picnics offset losses in ribs and hams.
