CBOT futures closed mixed with gains in corn and losses in soybeans and wheat. Corn and soybeans closed mid-range but wheat finished at/near the day’s lows. Corn was supported by the warm, dry forecast. Soybeans were pressured by weakness in soybean oil related to the early losses in crude oil (recovered late day). 2021/22 net export sales of soybeans was negative, setting a marketing-year low. Wheat futures were pressured by the stronger US Dollar and ideas that Russia may agree to let Ukraine export more crops.
Live and feeder cattle futures closed lower after making gains the past three trading days. Futures were pressured by profit-taking due to the stronger dollar and weaker equities following a surprisingly high PPI. Weekly beef export sales of 9200 MT set a new marketing year low. Choice beef slipped .30 to 267.75 and Select rose .65 to 241.91. Beef movement was moderate at 110 loads. Negotiated cash trade was not established today.
Lean hog futures closed lower given the general weakness in commodities. Weekly pork export sales of 18,300 MT were down 42 percent from the previous week. FOB Plant Pork edged up .23 to 118.51, far short of the 120.91 morning quote. Belly value rose 6 to 177, but rib value fell 13 to 162. Pork movement was a moderate
