Posted on Dec 31, 2015
CBOT futures closed with little or no price change after trading fairly narrow ranges. Market factors remain the same. Next week the focus will be on South American weather and positioning for the January 12 USDA crop reports.

Livestock futures also traded in relatively small price ranges ahead of the long weekend. Feeder Cattle futures closed higher extending the rally which started December 18. Choice beef added another 3.81/cwt to hit 212.59, and Select beef gained 3.71 to 205.22. Just one week ago, Choice was 197.63 and Select was 189.47. Fed cattle sold for $134-135/cwt this week; thus the December LC contract surged to 135.80 today as it expired.

Lean Hog futures closed little changed today and traded in a narrow range during the 4-day week. Today’s stronger pork market may provide a lift in Monday’s early trade. FOB Plant Pork closed up 1.05 at 68.83 with bellies up over 7 percent.

CNBC reports that the Dow Jones Average (-2.23%) and the S&P500 Index (-.73%) ended 2015 lower for the year, and had their worst years since 2008. The Nasdaq is up 5.7 percent for 2015.
