Corn and soybean futures closed lower but well off the day’s lows, while wheat recovered from big losses to close near the day’s highs. Corn and soybeans were pressured by recent rains that should provide a yield-saving finish to the season. Today being the last day of the month may have led to some long liquidation by the spec funds.

Cattle futures closed lower. LC were pressured by weakening boxed beef values and fund long liquidation. Live Cattle futures have fallen sharply over the past 6 trading days. The expiring August LC contract has fallen over $8/cwt since last Tuesday’s high. Choice beef lost .67 to 342.11 and Select slipped .52 to 312.03.

Lean hog futures closed mixed with the first 5 LH contracts lower. LH were pressured by the weakening cash hog market. FOB Plant Pork lost .71 to 109.01 after being up 2.43 in the morning report. The main difference was ham value going from up 9.15 to down 3.18.
