Jennifer Elwell honored with Farm Public Relations Award
Posted on Dec 6, 2013
Elwell was nominated for her creative and comprehensive public relations efforts on behalf of the Kentucky Corn Growers Association and the Kentucky Small Grain Growers Associations over the past 15 years. She has carried the positive and accurate message of agriculture not only to members of the media, but also directly to consumers through a variety of successful public relations strategies.
Recently, Elwell has embraced the many new technologies available to her – on both the professional and personal levels. She led the development of an award-winning video series, Kentucky Farms Feed Me, that allows schoolchildren to take virtual field trips through a series of diverse farming operations across the state. She is actively involved with the national CommonGround program that encourages farm wives and moms from around the country to have meaningful conversations with non-farm moms about food and food choices. Three years ago, Elwell even launched her own blog site – “Food, Mommy!” – to share, from a personal perspective, how a farm mom made food choices for her family. She additionally contributed to Michele Payne-Knoper’s book, No More Food Fights, that was published earlier this year, is a member of the Kentucky Food Bloggers Association, and has also begun writing a monthly column for The Farmer’s Pride.
The University of Kentucky graduate’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. Elwell was lauded throughout her letters of recommendation for this award as “a constant advocate of Kentucky agriculture,” someone who “supports farmers,” and whose “dedication to the agriculture message (is) unparalleled.”
KFB’s Farm Public Relations Award, which consists of a commemorative plaque and $300 prize, was developed to recognize Kentuckians who significantly generate a better public understanding of agriculture. The recipient’s accomplishments can be compiled either on a volunteer basis or as part of an individual’s job, but the individual cannot be a professional writer or broadcaster.
