January 8, 2016 Legislative Report No. 2 - 2016 Kentucky General Assembly

Posted on Jan 8, 2016
Today marks the fourth legislative day of this sixty day session. In the first four days of the session there have been a total of 126 Senate bills and resolutions and 236 House bills and resolutions introduced.

On January 4, Governor Bevin issued a Road Fund Budget Reduction Order. This was necessary because the amount budgeted during the 2014 session of the General Assembly was $1.558 billion, however on December 16, 2015 the Consensus Forecasting Group revised the official Road Fund estimate for fiscal year 2015-2016 to $1.445 billion or $122.5 million less than the original revenue estimate in 2014.

On Tuesday, January 26, Governor Bevin will present his budget address to a joint session of the General Assembly. Governor Bevin also announced that March 8, 2016 will be the election date to fill the four House of Representative seats that are currently vacant. The four seats are: House District 8 – Christian and Trigg counties House District 54 – Boyle and Casey counties House District 62 – Fayette, Owen, and Scott counties House District 98 – Boyd and Greenup counties The filing deadline for candidates seeking office for this year's election must file with the Secretary of State by January 26, 2016, except for those seeking office as an independent. The filing deadline for independent candidates is April 1, 2016. Next week’s report we will provide you with a comprehensive list of bills we are monitoring.
