Commissioner Comer: Visit a Kentucky farm for your family's Halloween needs
Posted on Oct 15, 2012
“You can go to a Kentucky farm and find the perfect pumpkin for your family’s needs,” Commissioner Comer said. “In the process, you can help a Kentucky farm family earn a living.”
The Comer family visited Evans Orchard in Georgetown on Sunday and took home farm-fresh pumpkins for their Halloween celebration. Many orchards and u-pick pumpkin patches depend on brisk sales during the Halloween season, state Agritourism Director Ben Shaffar said.
Kentucky farm destinations also offer hayrides, live entertainment, corn mazes, trail rides, wine tastings, and many other activities. Many also have Kentucky Proud foods that visitors can enjoy on site or take home.
A directory of agritourism destinations is available at www.kentuckyfarmsarefun.com. Users can search the database by region or type of attraction. To find a list of Kentucky Proud wineries, go to www.kentuckywine.com. For more information on agritourism in Kentucky, contact Ben Shaffar at (502) 564-4983 or ben.shaffar@ky.gov.
