Bluegrass & Backroads launches ninth season on February 12

Posted on Feb 1, 2012
Louisville, KY (February 1, 2012) – Kentucky Farm Bureau’s (KFB) Emmy® Award-winning television program, Bluegrass & Backroads, will celebrate its ninth season on the air, and second year in the broadcast lineup of Kentucky Educational Television (KET), beginning February 12.

This season’s first episode features segments on the work done under the blazing heat of a forge, a camp designed specifically for seriously ill and disabled children, one of the state’s most beautiful racetracks, and the savory selections cooked up at one of the region’s favorite barbecue restaurants.

“I am amazed at how this show continues to grow in new and exciting ways each year,” said Bob Shrader, KFB’s video production coordinator. “This season viewers will join us as we are welcomed into the homes and businesses of some amazing people doing remarkable things – things most of us might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience.”

Bluegrass & Backroads is a 30-minute show that explores the agricultural, cultural, historical and artistic stories unique to Kentucky. Produced at the KFB state headquarters in Louisville, the program is written, filmed, hosted, directed and edited by the two-person team of Shrader and Matt Hilton. This 30-second promotional video summarizes the types of stories produced for the show.

“Kentucky is such an interesting place,” said Hilton. “From its talented artists and craftsmen to its unique events and bountiful farmlands, there is a seemingly-endless supply of stories to cover on our show. I love getting to wake up, travel the state’s beautiful backroads, meet fascinating people and see incredible places.”

“I don’t think there is another show out there that gives the audience such a broad look at Kentucky’s people, places and events,” added Shrader. “In particular, our agriculture stories highlight some truly hidden gems. Whether we are producing a story about a successful young farm family or a feature on the state’s horse shoeing school, our diversity offers new looks at the Bluegrass State in each episode.”

Season nine of Bluegrass & Backroads will debut on KET2 at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 12. From that date, the show will be inserted into the full family of KET programming, airing on KET at 12:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, on KET2 at 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays, and on KETKY at 7:30 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Sundays, 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays and 7:30 a.m. on Fridays. Season nine will also be shown on RFD-TV at 12 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning May 2. All times are Eastern Time Zone.
