
A group of Kentucky grain farmers is growing test plots of a new oil seed, one that might have a familiar ring to it….chia. Chris Kummer with Kentucky Specialty grains says they have about 140 acres in chia as an oil seed crop. So far, production practices seem to work well here, and the demand for the crop (rich in omega 3) is booming. And yes, says Kummer, the crop is related to the chia used for the “chia pet.”
