A report on how the “Farms to Food Banks” program is utilizing “2nds” from produce farmers to help feed the hungry. Commercial vegetable grower, McCracken County’s Danny Garrett, had never heard of the program until last year when sale of a large shipment of tomatoes fell through. Instead of having that produce rot, he was able to get a break-even price delivering it to a food pantry warehouse in Mayfield, then onto the dinner plates of some hungry families.
