Kentucky AgriLegacy Solutions Program Launched to Support Farm Families in Transition Planning
Posted on Nov 24, 2025
Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation and the Kentucky Center for Agriculture and Rural Development (KCARD) are proud to announce the launch of KCARD’s Kentucky AgriLegacy Solutions Program, a new effort designed to help Kentucky farm families navigate the farm transition process.
“Since the beginning of the Kentucky Farmland Transition Initiative, a Network of partner organizations was formed to tackle issues as a unified voice for rural Kentucky,” said Renee Carrico, Kentucky Farm Bureau Commodity Division Director. “As a KFTI Network member, KCARD has always been an integral part of the conversations, and the new AgriLegacy Solutions Program is a great example of what true collaboration can accomplish. We are excited to see this program launch.”
KCARD’s succession planning services help families initiate meaningful conversations and navigate their specific transition. The program guides early discussions about the future, helps families clarify goals and roles across generations, and supports the development of a thoughtful transition plan.
KCARD also assists families in organizing key information before meeting with attorneys, CPAs, and financial advisors, making those professional meetings more efficient and productive. This program is made possible through funding from the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
“At KCARD, we continuously evolve our services to support Kentucky farm families where they need it most. This program represents our commitment to helping producers navigate the future with confidence and strengthen the long-term vitality of Kentucky agriculture,” said Brent Lackey, KCARD Executive Director.
KCARD’s effort has come together following the launch of the Kentucky Farmland Transition Initiative (KFTI) by Kentucky Farm Bureau in 2024 to find ways to keep more farmland in production and in the hands of active farmers. As part of this initiative, a network of 28 partner organizations was developed to work together on this goal.
For more than two decades, KCARD has served as a trusted voice in agricultural and rural business development across Kentucky. With deep experience in farm management, family business dynamics, and agricultural business structures, KCARD is uniquely trained to guide families through both business complexities and personal conversations of the transition planning process.
Representatives from KCARD will be on hand to talk about this program at the upcoming Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting held Dec. 3-6 in Louisville. On Dec. 4, a ‘Deciding What to Do with Your Farm and Estate: Q&A Session with Experts’ session will be held specifically on farm transition planning and will also include an attorney and staff from the Cabinet for Economic Development discussing recent state tax changes.
