The sixth annual Nelson County Fair Public Speaking and Talent Contests were held Saturday, July 11, 2015, at 5:00 p.m. at the Nelson County Civic Center Bardstown Kentucky. Prizes for this event were provided by the Nelson County Fair Board awarding passes to the 2015 Fair, the Nelson County Farm Bureau (NCFB) sponsoring over $900 in prizes, the Chapter FFA Clubs awarding certificates and the Nelson County 4-H Extension awarding champion, reserve and participation ribbons. The Nelson County Farm Bureau Women's Committee organized the contests.  

Sylvia Horlander, Reporter for WBRT Radio Station, was Master of Ceremony. With a packed, house Horlander introduced nine talent acts which competed in their various mediums for five minutes. She introduced four public speakers who spoke two minutes about agriculture related topics. 

Winners of the Talent Show were:  Alexis Raisor, Open Show 1st place $100, NCFB 1st place $100, and 4-H Champion Ribbon; Benjamin Williams and Trace Smathers, Tied for Open Show 2nd place - each won $50 and 4-H Reserve ribbon; Benjamin Williams, NCFB 2nd place $50, FFA Award. 

Winners of the Public Speaking were: Rachel Tichenor, Open Show Female Category 1st place $100, NCFB Female Category 1st place $100, and FFA Award; Ashley Hardin, Open Show Female Category 2nd place $50, NCFB Female Category 2nd place $50, and FFA Award; Payton Carter, FFA Award and NC 4-H Reserve ribbon; Martin Williams, Open Show Male Category 1st place $100, NCFB Male Category 1st place $100, FFA Award and 4-H Champion Ribbon.

Aside from 1st place Open Show winners receiving a full week's pass to the Nelson County Fair, all of the participants received one-day pass to the NC Fair and FFA member certificates and 4-H Participation Ribbons.

Other participants in the Talent Contest were Evan Logsdon, Emily Rogan, Aydon Lyvers, Grayson Lyvers, Layten Lyvers and Ashley Hardin.

Kentucky Farm Bureau Fifth District Contest preliminary paperwork will be submitted for NCFB winners Alex Raisor, Rachel Tichenor, and Martin Williams as they will advance to compete against eleven county winners on November 12, 2015 at the Anderson County High School. 

The purpose of the talent contest is to recognize young people and give them an opportunity to perform before audiences to gain valuable experience in the talent and entertainment field. The purpose of the speaking contests is to promote youth involvement in county activities and to recognize leadership, achievements and awards in their schools and communities.
