Community Focus - KFB State Women’s Leadership Conference

Nelson County Farm Bureau was represented at the March 8-9, 2013 Kentucky Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Conference by the following five participants: Elaine Roche, Sarah Wheatley, Geraldine Flaugher, Jean Jury and Doris White. It was held at the Louisville Marriott East. Attendees heard from the State Women’s Advisory Chair Phyllis Amyx, AFB Women’s leadership Committee Chair Terry Gilbert, and AFB Director Rural Affairs Sabrina Matteson. The following Kentucky Farm Bureau Officers also spoke: Director of Local Affairs & Policy Development Bryan Alvey, Director of Member Services Dwight Greenwell, President Mark Haney, Director of Public Affairs Jeff Harper, and Social Media Specialist Carilynn Gravatte. Special Agent Brett Johnson with the Bureau of Investigation and keynote speaker Dave Stone, Professional Speaker and Senior Pastor Southeast Christian Church also presented.
Workshops covered topics such as “Identity Theft”, “Navigating the World of Social Media”, “Legislative and Congressional Update” and “County Chairs Workshops”. Winners from the State’s Talent Showcase, Allison Stafford of Marion County and Bluegrass Branch Line Band of Magoffin County, entertained during the conference. Door prizes were awarded throughout the conference. A silent auction and live auction was the highlight of Friday evening entertainment raising approximately $7,000 for the KFB Women’s Scholarship Fund and Mini Grant Programs.
Upon the conclusion of the conference our Nelson County participants realized that the Nelson County Farm Bureau Women fully endorse our “Voice of Agriculture” throughout the year exampled by the full participation in programs the Kentucky Farm Bureau have to offer.
