Community Focus - Grayson County Farm Bureau awards scholarships

Each year Grayson County Farm Bureau awards $500 scholarships to local graduating students. In 2010, there were 9 scholarships given totaling $4,500. This year 13 scholarships were awarded totaling $6,500 was given to graduating seniors. There were 4,430 members as of last October in Grayson County; so that would be almost $1.50 from the portion of membership fee received by the county is awarded to a local student for college expense.

The scholarship is given to each recipient to spend on books, tuition or however it is needed. It is paid out in two (2) checks given to the student at the beginning of the first semester and the beginning of the second. The student MUST provided a class enrollment schedule to be able to receive their checks.

To be eligible for the scholarship you must meet the following qualifications:
• A parent or guardian of the student must be a member of Grayson County Farm Bureau
• Give some type of farming experience
• Provide a signed transcript of grades from the High School Counselor
• Must be a resident of Grayson County

The 13 Scholarships were awarded to the following students: Cody Bertram, Sarah M. Bratcher, Adam Tyler Downs, Kelci LeNee’ Fulkerson, Hunter Gary, Dustin Hayes, Alli Shena’ Higdon, Amy Kristyn Higdon, Tessa Dawn McDavid, Tiffany Danielle Meredith, Morgan Milam, Macy Lukas Purcell and Daril Tannan Roof.
