Market Update - March 4, 2013

Posted on Mar 4, 2013
CBOT futures are trading mixed with soybean price gains set against sharp losses in wheat futures. Export soybean sales to China remain strong but a huge South American crop is on its way. Commodity prices in general are under some pressure today on news that China is acting to slow its housing construction. Weaker Asian economies would impact the global market.

CBOT traders will be eager to see USDA’s supply-demand updates at 11 am EST on Friday.

CME Cattle futures are little changed today after closing poorly Friday despite strong cash cattle and boxed beef markets. Given the recent US$ strength and the federal sequester, futures may wait for the cash markets to lead the way.

Lean Hog futures are also slightly weaker waiting for demand and cash prices to improve.
