Alexia Lawson Receives 2018 Women's Educational Grant

Posted on Dec 1, 2018

Alexia Lawson of Breathitt County is the recipient of Kentucky Farm Bureau’s (KFB) 2018 Women’s Educational Grant. The announcement was made at the organization’s 99th annual meeting, held at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville. The $1,500 Women’s Educational Grant is awarded annually to a non-traditional, female student who is interested in resuming her education after previously leaving school to fulfill either family of work-related responsibilities.

Lawson, who is married with two children, attends Hazard Community and Technical College and says that nursing is her dream career. She is currently in school to receive an associate’s degree in nursing and hopes to enroll in Eastern Kentucky University’s program to receive a bachelor’s degree in nursing while working as an emergency room nurse. Her goal is to be a family nurse practitioner.

While pursuing her educational and career goals is important, Lawson says her children come first. “My children are my first priority and getting my education will allow me to always be able to support them and give them the best life possible. This grant will help relieve some of the financial stress of college, while also helping me pursue the career of my dreams,” she said.

Kentucky Farm Bureau, with over 473,000 member families statewide, is the state’s largest general farm organization. Approximately 2,000 members attended KFB’s 99th annual meeting in Louisville, November 28 – December 1, to recognize this year’s individual and organizational achievements and adopt policy for 2019.
