St. Vincent DePaul
Through the Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s “Santa Shop,” Kentucky Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company employees annually supply a much merrier Christmas to 25 families in need.
Each holiday season, KFB Insurance decorates a tree with ornaments donning the names of 25 children from low-income families. St. Vincent de Paul provides our employees with information about each of these children, such as age and gender, and a wish list of items they want and need.
KFB Insurance encourages employees to take an ornament from the tree and purchase as few or as many items as they please from that child’s wish list. Entire departments often collect money to buy everything on the list, which usually includes necessities such as socks, shoes, pajamas, coats, hats and gloves.
From there, the items are shipped back to St. Vincent de Paul for their free “Santa Shop,” a blessing for parents who can’t afford gifts for their little ones. A week before Christmas, parents are invited to “shop” the shelves. This way, the children view the gifts as coming from their parents or Santa rather than charity.
