Buying the Best
To help you enjoy the freshest products, here’s a quick guide on key characteristics to look for when buying blackberries.
LOOK FOR: Fully black, soft to the touch, plump
AVOID: Red or white berries, moldy, busted
U-PICK: Gently grab berry and pull from the bush, careful not to pick any unripe berries. Ripe berries will release easily from the bush without tugging. Avoid squeezing, as the fruit will bruise and burst easily.
Washing and Storage Tips
Place berries in a colander and rinse under cool water. Blackberries are very delicate and can absorb water easily. Store unwashed berries in a container lined with paper towels. Wash and use within 5 days. Freeze extras for baking or smoothies.
