Kentucky Farm Bureau Announces Winners of Excellence in Ag Literacy and Women's Educational Grant Awards 

Two Kentuckians are being awarded significant honors from Kentucky Farm Bureau. Leslie McCarty of Montgomery County is the 2019 Women’s Educational Grant winner and Kelly Gates of Hopkins County has been named the Excellence in Ag Literacy recipient.

CBOT futures closed lower and near the day’s lows for corn and soybeans; wheat finished midrange.  Cattle futures closed mostly higher but near the day’s lows after a rally during the first hour failed to hold. Lean Hog futures closed strongly higher and near the day’s highs.

CBOT futures closed steady to lower but with closes near the day’s lows. Live Cattle futures closed steady after an opening rally failed. Feeder cattle once again outperformed Live Cattle futures. Lean Hog futures have been on a roller coaster with alternating up and down days.

One of the favorite exhibit areas during the Kentucky State Fair is Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance’s Pride of the Counties in the south wing of the Kentucky Exposition Center.  Bryan Regenauer with Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance talks about Pride of the Counties, what people have a chance to see this year and why the exhibit is important.

For the second year in a row Kentucky Farm Bureau and a number of other businesses and organizations will join together to recognize young people who exhibit champion livestock during the Kentucky State Fair Championship Drive.  North American International Livestock Expo Manager Catherine Riley talks about the championship drive that will culiminate this evening in Broadbent Arena.

More than 1500 friends of Kentucky Farm Bureau are expected to enjoy country ham and all the trimmings Thursday at the Farm Bureau Country Ham Breakfast at the Kentucky State Fair.  Farm Bureau Public Affairs Division Director Jeff Harper previews the breakfast, talks about the money raised for charity and how the breakfast spotlights country ham producers.
