Statement from KFB President Mark Haney: Repeal of the 2015 Waters of the United States Rule

Repeal of the 2015 Waters of the United States rule is a victory for clean water and clear rules. As farmers, we share the goal of protecting the nation’s water, but the 2015 Waters of the United States rule was unreasonable and unworkable. It made conservation more difficult and created huge liabilities for farmers.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines the word “entrepreneur” as being, “one who organizes, manages, and assumes the risks of a business or enterprise.”  With that said, the likely image of an entrepreneur is not necessarily that of a teenager. However, Ben Williams and Taylor Cook did not get that memo. In fact, these two teens have been thinking about running a business of their own for quite some time.

Corn, soybean and soymeal futures closed strongly higher today as traders have renewed concerns that wet weather and late planting will negatively impact production. Cattle futures closed lower for a second day with feeder cattle futures losing more due to the rise in CBOT futures. Lean Hog futures closed sharply lower with the July LH making new lows for the current Apr/May/June downtrend.

Natural Resource Conservation Service Chief Matt Lohr says his department is focused on implementing the 2018 Farm Bill, customer service and making sure the agency has enough staff to properly serve farmers around the country.  Lohr, who is a Virginia farmer, says one of the highlights so far has been listening to success stories told by farmers around the country.
