Caleb and Leanne Ragland of LaRue County Named Kentucky Farm Bureau's Outstanding Young Farm Family

Caleb and Leanne Ragland of LaRue County have been named Kentucky Farm Bureau’s (KFB) “2020 Outstanding Young Farm Family”. This annual award recognizes a couple or individual under the age of 35 that demonstrates strong farm management skills, KFB and community involvement, and consistent financial growth through their farm.

CBOT futures closed mostly higher with little new information driving prices. USDA only announced a corn export sale this morning. Cattle futures closed lower today with feeder futures posting bigger losses. Lean hog futures closed higher in December and February, but lower in the deferred contracts with price changes fairly small.

Corn and soy complex futures closed higher with new contract highs in soybeans and soybean oil. Live and feeder cattle futures closed moderately higher on strong boxed beef values. Lean hog futures closed higher with 2021 contracts leading the way.

Brandon Gilles, of Daviess County, won first place in the final round of Kentucky Farm Bureau’s (KFB) Discussion Meet, a debate-styled competition for young farmers that relies on an individual’s skill in reasoning and logical discussion of issues. The topic was: “Connectivity underpins the modern economy. What mix of investment and policy initiatives can provide reliable broadband access to farmers, ranchers, and rural America?”
