Kirby Green from Daviess County wins Excellence in Agriculture Award

Kirby Green from Daviess County has won top honors in Kentucky Farm Bureau’s (KFB) Excellence in Agriculture Awards program for 2019. She received the award during the organization’s recent Annual Meeting at the Galt House in Louisville.

Antique tractor enthusiast will have a chance to put their tractors to work this weekend during the 20th annual Hal Fennel Memorial Antique Tractor Plow Day in Christian County.  Committee members Seth Delaney and Larry Larimore talk about Plow Day, what spectators can see and special demonstrations featuring a steam engine, and mules and horses.

Hardin County farmer Ray Allen Mackey represented Kentucky farmers during the University of Kentucky Grain and Forage Center of Excellence ribbon cutting, September 19, in Princeton.  Mackey, who is President of the Kentucky Corn Promotion Council, talked about the vision behind the center, the importance of the facility and staff for the future of agriculture.

A standing room only crowd was on hand Thursday, September 19, as the University of Kentucky cut the ribbon to officially open the Grain and Forage Center of Excellence at the Research and Education Center in Princeton.  Director Dr. Chad Lee, U.K. President Dr. Eli Capilouto and a number of other speakers talked about the importance of the center and the researchers and staff that work there.

CBOT futures closed steady to lower, except for the MGEX spring wheat contract which continued to rally on unfavorable weather conditions and forecasts in the north. Cattle futures closed higher on the announcement of a US/Japan trade agreement which will lower tariffs on US beef.  Lean Hog futures rose sharply today on ideas that China is about to make a large purchase of US pork.
