As a cattle producer, I am thankful to the General Assembly for passing House Bill 311 which will ensure lab-grown protein products are properly labeled for consumers. I would also like to thank Representative Michael Meredith for sponsoring this important bill.

CBOT futures again closed narrowly mixed as traders wait for USDA’s reports on Friday which will dump data on grain stocks, crop size and demand estimates (for U.S. and the World). Cattle futures closed slightly lower after testing the positive side of unchanged. Lean Hog futures closed lower and near the day’s lows on weakness in the pork market amid heavy slaughter.

CBOT futures closed mostly steady to a couple cents higher. Futures dropped in the first half-hour of trading, but reversed higher and closed near the day’s highs.  Cattle futures closed mixed with LC mostly higher and FC lower. LC futures were supported by Monday’s huge 3.39 gain in the Choice cutout along with a minimal setback in boxed beef today.
