International trade is so important to the agriculture industry both here in Kentucky, and throughout the country. It is because of that importance, I can’t emphasize enough how critical trade agreements are to the overall rural American economy.

A little auctioneer with a big voice will sell the 2018 Grand Champion Kentucky Country Ham at the Kentucky Farm Bureau Country Ham Breakfast Thursday morning at the State Fair.  Leon Shirk, who sells produce four days a week and has his own auction and real estate business, talks with host Alan Watts about selling the ham.

CBOT futures traded wide ranges today with the lows generally set overnight in following selling from Friday’s bearish USDA crop report.  Cattle futures closed lower.  LC and FC gapped down on the open and never traded on the positive side.  Lean Hog futures closed higher but way below the day’s highs.

CBOT futures closed lower and well off the day’s highs as traders prepare for the USDA production and supply-demand reports being released at 11 am CDT tomorrow.  Cattle futures closed moderately lower as the cash market dipped to $110/cwt today.  Lean Hog futures opened lower but immediately started to rally. By mid-morning, LH futures had rallied over $3.00 to lock limit UP.

CBOT futures closed steady to higher but little changed on the day except for the OATS contract.  Cattle futures closed slightly higher on a lack of market direction from cash trade.   The story hasn’t changed for Lean Hog futures – down we go to new contract lows.
