Kentucky Family Wins Top Honor from American Farm Bureau Federation

Caleb and Leanne Ragland of LaRue County won a top honor during the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) virtual convention today, being named winners of the Young Farmers & Ranchers “Achievement Award.”

We had another stellar day in the grain and soy markets as new contract highs were made in corn, Chicago wheat, soybeans, meal and soyoil.  Except for the expiring December LC contract, cattle futures closed lower with bigger losses in feeder cattle due to the soaring corn price. Lean hog futures closed very narrowly mixed after a very strong opening to the market.

After trading slightly lower overnight, corn and soy complex futures rallied steadily during the day session to close sharply higher, especially in the old-crop soybeans and meal. Both live and feeder cattle futures closed in the red today with bigger losses in the nearby contracts. Lean hog futures closed slightly higher, erasing some of Monday’s losses.

Grain and soy futures closed widely mixed in sizable trading ranges. Cattle futures closed modestly higher except for the deferred Feeder Cattle contracts slipping into the red. Lean hog futures closed lower despite a surge in the pork cutout.
