President's Column: Come Visit the Kentucky State Fair

By the time Kentucky Farm Bureau was founded as an organization in 1919, the Kentucky State Fair was already celebrating its 17th birthday, officially. But the fair has roots that date back to 1816, making it one of the oldest fair celebrations in the country.

Grain futures followed the lead of the financial markets in dropping sharply as news broke that President Trump will place a new 10% tariff on $300 billion of Chinese products effective September 1.  Live Cattle futures closed higher, recovering much of yesterday’s losses. LC ignored the negative news and price action in many other ag futures and the US financial markets.  Lean Hog futures beyond the nearby August LH closed sharply lower, adding to yesterday’s limit-down losses.

New Kentucky Farm Bureau Executive Vice-President Drew Graham is off to a great start leading the state’s largest farm organization.  Graham, who took over in October 2018, talks about the organization, the staff that leads Kentucky Farm Bureau, communicating with the membership and some of the major issues Farm Bureau is working on.

The Kentucky Soybean Association welcomed farmers and other members of the agribusiness community to their new building in Princeton Tuesday, July 23.  Soybean Promotion Board Chairman Ryan Bivens says the new building allows the organization and staff to have a state of the art facility that represents agriculture and the soybean industry.
