STATEMENT FROM PRESIDENT MARK HANEY ON THE 2018 FARM BILL

I can’t overemphasize the importance of the Farm Bill to Kentucky farm families and rural communities. It truly is the single most important piece of legislation related to agriculture. The failure to pass the bill in the House, while disappointing, should be viewed as an opportunity to work harder, speak louder, and advocate more often to see this bill through to passage and ultimately law.

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt says there will soon be a replacement to the Waters of the U.S. rule that will be more friendly to agriculture and rural America.  Adminstrator Pruitt discussed the repeal of the existing WOTUS rule and what is in the new plan with host Alan Watts and fellow farm broadcasters during the National Association of Farm Broadcasters Washington Watch in late April.

Kentucky's tobacco settlement money is in – with more coming

GOAP Executive Director Warren Beeler told the General Assembly’s Tobacco Settlement Agreement Fund Oversight Committee today that the $102 million, received last month, will provide around $28.4 million in 2018 for state and county agricultural projects funded through the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund, or KADF.

After trading steady to lower overnight, futures moved sharply higher when trading reopened at 830 am CT and closed near the day’s highs. CBOT futures rallied despite a big .7% gain in the US Dollar Index and a sharp drop in energy futures.  Live Cattle futures opened a little higher but quickly headed lower and made the day’s lows by 10:30 am.
