Grand Champion Ham Brings $325,000 Charitable Bid at 54th Annual Country Ham BreakfastPosted on Aug 24, 2017
The 54th Annual Kentucky Farm Bureau Country Ham Breakfast brought in an incredible $325,000 winning bid for the Kentucky State Fair’s Grand Champion Country Ham.
Kentucky Farm Bureau President Mark Haney kicked off the remarks portion of the program. “Along with other agriculture organizations, we are committed to improving lives in rural Kentucky. We love Kentucky, because we believe in Kentucky,” said Haney. “We believe in our people. We believe in the core values that Kentuckians have. We believe in the work ethic of Kentucky’s farmers. We believe in the importance of Kentucky to the nation, and to the world.”
As is tradition, the ham breakfast ended with a country ham auction for charity. Coming in with the highest bid for the day was Central Bank. This year’s prized ham weighs in at 21 lbs and was produced by Broadbent B & B Foods of Kuttawa, Kentucky.
“As a business, we believe in philanthropy and giving back to our community whenever possible,” said Luther Deaton, Jr., Chairman, President & CEO of Central Bank “For many years we have been working alongside the Kentucky Farm Bureau as they make Kentucky a better place to live. I’m excited that we have been able to participate in today’s event that Kentucky Farm Bureau graciously hosts.”
Central Bank has chosen to donate the proceeds from today’s generous winning bid to the Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky, University of Kentucky Athletics, the University of Kentucky Hospital, and the Garvice Kincaid Scholarship Foundation.
The 1600 attendees were served a Kentucky Proud Breakfast and listened to speeches from top elected officials, including Governor Matt Bevin, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles and Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer.
Since the Kentucky Farm Bureau Country Ham Breakfast began in 1964, the event has raised more than $10 million for local charities and nonprofit organizations.
