Jefferson County Farm Bureau will award one regular college scholarship for the current school year. The amount of this scholarship is $2000 per semester, with a cap of $16,000.

2018 Andrew Butler Memorial Agriculture Scholarship

Jefferson County Farm Bureau will award one scholarship per year to a student pursuing a degree in an agriculture-related field. The amount of this scholarship is $2000 per semester with a cap of eight semesters, depending upon the type of school and its curriculum set-up.

CBOT futures closed mixed with the sharp drop in the soy complex standing out today.  The selling was encouraged by rains in Argentina and forecasts for more.  Corn futures managed steady closes but remain near the contract lows established on Tuesday.  Cattle futures closed slightly higher today, but continue a generally sideways patter for the week as traders wait for the cash market to be established.

Webster County farmers are being asked to support a farm safety program and buy customized safety signs to be displayed on highways near their fields. Webster County Farm Bureau Women’s Chair, Sharon Edwards, says already about 30 farm families have purchased the signs which include their family name and choice of safety topic. Edwards says other “non-farm” entities in the community have also asked to participate.

The Ky Ag Department’s hay testing specialist, Kimberly Field, says she’s never done a gift certificate before but would be willing if anyone asked.  She explains the low-cost testing system to quantify nutrient content for effective animal feeding, saying it’s the only one of its kind in the nation.
