The UK College of Ag, Food and Environment is experiencing a “bumper crop” of ag major for the 2017/18 school year.  Feldhaus visits with the dean of the ag school, Dr. Nancy Cox, who says they’re experiencing growth in majors ranging from their equine program to their new ag and medical biotechnology field of study.

With construction starting just barely over a year ago the new Bluegrass Stockyards in northern Fayette County will hold its ‘ribbon cutting,’ this Friday, with its first day of receiving livestock Monday, Sep 11.  Jim Akers, the facility’s chief operating officer discusses the impact of the new facility on the region.

A preview of the Sep 15/16 Ky Wood Expo set for Masterson Station Park in Lexington, expected to draw up to 5,000 visitors.  Bob Bauer, Executive Director of the Ky Forest Industries Association, expo host, says the event is a trade show for the industry but also draws thousands of other spectators to see the collegiate lumberjack competition, the chainsaw carving art contest, and, for some, to create their own cutting board.

A feature report on the newly rebuilt Bluegrass Stockyards in Lexington, which will hold a ribbon cutting on Sep 8, and accept its first run of cattle on Sep 11.  The stockyards’ chief operating office, Jim Akers, has been overseeing construction in northern Fayette County.  He’s extremely excited about the features of the new facility and feels that cattlemen far and wide will be please with it as well.

The UK Ag Economics Team has scored a “repeat” as national champions in the national Academics Bowl hosted by the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association, held this past July in Chicago.  Team coach, Jerrod Penn, explains how this Jeopardy-like contest works, how his team prepared for it, and offers some insight into how they “repeated.”

CEO of that agency Bill McCloskey talks about how their low interest loans can help commercial ag lenders go further in their efforts to help young farmers get started, and help others expand.
