American Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall says 2018 was a big year for agriculture policy, with some major priorities on the table for 2019.  Duvall, who was recently in Kentucky, says Trade and Farm Labor are two of the major issues that still need to be addressed.

Although the FFA organization allowed women into the organization in 1969, it would take 30 years for FFA members to elect their first female president in Kentucky.  We visit with Kentucky’s first female FFA President Jessamine County native Susan Wright, talk about the impact of FFA in her life and how she was able to give back to members of the organization.

Kentucky Farm Bureau President Mark Haney says it is important for county Farm Bureau Presidents to know the priorities of farming and agriculture in the state.  Haney talked with county presidents and vice-presidents about priorities and their role as leaders during the 2019 KFB Presidents and Vice Presidents Conference that took place in Louisville in February.

Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles says it is critical for the Kentucky General Assembly to pass a meat labeling bill that will protect Kentucky Agriculture from lab grown meat products that are being developed.  Quarles says the fake meat bill, that is being debated in the Kentucky General Assembly, will protect the beef cattle, pork and poultry industry, and will ensure Kentucky consumers know what they are eating.

Kentucky Corn Growers President Mark Roberts says corn farmers faced some tough challenges in 2018, but are hoping a new Canada Mexico Trade deal will bring some better prices in 2019.  Roberts also talks about a special car that is bringing attention to the benefits of E-85 ethanol in Kentucky.

FFA chapters from the across the state partnered with one National Farm Machinery Show exhibitor to hand out popcorn and take donations for chapter activities this year.  Madison Central FFA President Lydia Carey talks about their chapter, how they plan to use the donations and what students are learning in the FFA and Vocational Agriculture program at the school.

Kentucky Farm Bureau members are in Washington, DC this week for the annual Congressional Tour.  First Vice-President Eddie Melton says members will be meeting with the Kentucky Congressional delegation and will likely discuss trade, rural broadband and a number of other topics.
