Corn and soybean futures closed slightly lower and at/near the day’s lows due to a sell-off in the final minutes of trading. Markets were pressured in part by the widening basis and unexpectedly low cash prices in markets dependent upon river transportation.

Corn and soybean futures posted minimal changes but futures closed off the day’s lows.  Cattle futures traded higher through mid-morning, but then weakened the rest of the day and closed mostly lower and at/near the day’s lows.  Lean Hog futures followed Tuesday’s price pattern where the nearby October LH contract closed higher while most deferred futures closed slightly lower.

Corn and soybean futures closed lower and near the day’s lows.  owever, corn supplies are huge, harvest is only 17% complete, and cash basis levels are under pressure from river freight costs soaring (reported to be at 3-year high).  Cattle futures closed sharply lower and near the day’s lows.

Except for soybean oil, the major CBOT futures closed near unchanged.  Today’s strength was mostly the result of strong export sales for soybeans.  Cattle futures closed mixed after trading both sides of unchanged.  Lean Hog futures closed sharply lower as the pork cutout dropped very hard and cash hog prices are under pressure from rising numbers being harvested.

CBOT futures closed higher today following Tuesday’s losses. Futures firmed overnight on short-covering with early morning gains favoring soybean futures on export sales announcements.  Live cattle and feeder cattle futures soared today with futures rallying steadily after opening near unchanged from Tuesday’s close.

Corn and soybean futures closed moderately lower in response to a bearish USDA Crop Production Report. USDA’s estimated yields and production increased from last month’s estimates.  Cattle futures closed lower on profit-taking as October LC futures were a couple dollars above recent cash trades.

CBOT futures closed mixed with minimal changes as traders prepared for tomorrow’s USDA crop reports. Cattle futures closed mostly higher with little news to move the market.  Lean Hog futures closed lower on trade expectations for weaker cash markets.

Corn and wheat futures closed moderately lower and at/near the day’s lows; the overnight price strength quickly faded during the day session.   Cattle futures closed mostly very strong and near the day’s highs as short-covering pulled prices off the recent lows.

Corn and wheat closed lower, while the soy complex managed 1 percent gains. Traders generally think the forecasted weather will have minimal impact on production.  Another rough day for cattle futures with roughly $2/cwt losses. Futures opened steady but weakness in light cash trade ($110) and the boxed beef market weighed on the market.

Although CBOT futures opened generally near steady, the closing prices were mostly lower except for MGEX wheat. Futures were pressured by non-threatening weather and technical selling as corn and wheat futures fall to new lows.  Cattle futures closed lower with feeder cattle down sharply which erased yesterday’s huge gains.
