CBOT futures closed steady to mostly higher, led by the soybean market. Soybean futures were supported by daily soybean export demand, last week’s bounce off the 200-day moving average, higher energy futures supporting soybean oil and the calendar whereby soybeans face the final critical production period.

CBOT futures closed mixed with wheat futures leading the market higher. Most trading stayed above Tuesday’s lows.  Cattle closed higher on optimism for stronger cash cattle trade this week and a firmer boxed beef market.

Monday’s strong crop ratings and non-threatening weather forecasts maintained pressure on CBOT futures.   Cattle futures closed mostly higher, consolidating Monday’s gains with support from the boxed beef market. Lean Hog futures closed mixed, supported by a strong pork market at midday where Fob Plant was up 2.24.

With plentiful soil moisture and forecasts for timely rainfall the next 2 weeks, traders and spec funds aggressively sold corn and soy complex futures.  Cattle futures soared higher with nearby Feeder Cattle contracts closing limit up. Futures were supported by aggressive short-covering after cash cattle traded $118/cwt, up $3.00 from a week earlier.

Soybean futures closed strongly higher, pulling corn up one percent.  Wheat futures traded higher early in the day but eventually sold off to close near the day’s lows and little changed from Tuesday’s market.  Cattle futures closed steady to slightly higher, consolidating this week’s strong futures gains.

CBOT futures closed mixed for a second day with prices mostly going the opposite direction seen yesterday.  Cattle futures closed higher, adding to Monday’s big gains (2016 contracts were limit up).

CBOT futures closed mixed as U.S. weather continues to ease concerns of production problems.  November soybean futures hit a new low for this move and are at 3-month lows.  Many cattle futures (through December 2016) contracts closed LIMIT UP as traders were encouraged by Friday’s friendly Cattle on Feed Report and the discount August LC have to the last cash trade near $115/cwt.

CBOT futures closed mixed but only after a day with wide trading ranges – corn, 10 cents; soybeans, 50 cents; wheat, 19 cents).  Live and Feeder cattle futures closed sharply higher today with Live erasing yesterday’s large losses. The rally was fueled by short-covering and profit-taking ahead of the weekend.

CBOT futures closed mostly higher but corn futures made new life-of-contract low closes. Pressure came from expectations that weather will be more favorable after the extreme heat this week.   Cattle and hog futures closed sharply lower on weaker product values and traders’ concern for consumer demand, especially during the extreme heat.

CBOT futures closed lower after trading steady or higher overnight into early this morning. Corn and wheat began selling off after 930 am CT. Traders seemed to have discounted the impact of the next few days of very hot temperatures given forecasts of less heat and more rain next week.   Cattle futures closed strongly lower, adding to Friday’s losses.
