Community Focus - Barren County Farm Bureau Annual Membership Meeting

The Barren County Farm Bureau Federation held their Annual Membership Meeting Saturday September 21, 2013 at the Barren County Trojan Academy. President Jay Coleman welcomed all in attendance. Invocation was given by 2nd vice president Frank Rowland and Pledge to Flag was led by 1st vice president Chris Chalk after which all in attendance enjoyed a meal served by the Barren County Cattleman's Association.
President Jay Coleman then surprised Glenn Barrick, who had announced at the last board meeting that he would be stepping down from the treasurer's position, but would stay as a board member, with a plaque that read to Glenn Barrick, For 25 Years as Treasurer of Barren County Farm Bureau Federation, 1988-2013. Mr. Coleman said that Glenn had served Barren County Farm Bureau Federation in other capacities, serving as president twice, 2nd Vice President and chair of various Farm Bureau Committees, serving also on the KFBF Board of Directories. President Coleman stated that Glenn and Betty had started with the young farmers program and given over 53 years of service to Barren County Farm Bureau.
The Outstanding Farm Bureau Youth and Variety Contest was conducted by co-women's chair Cynthia Rowland. The winner of the Outstanding Youth Contest was Rachel Fields and runner-up was Sara Bulter. In the Variety contest were winner Emily Stevens, 2nd place was Anna Kate Alexander and 3rd place was Alix Owens. Rachel Fields and Emily Stevens will represent Barren County in the District 4 Farm Bureau Outstanding Youth Contest and Variety Contest, to be held on November 2nd. at the Lera B Mitchell Club House. Congratulations and good luck Rachel and Emily at the District Contest.
Business session was held as follows: Neil Allen read the following Resolutions which were passed by the membership in attendance and they will go to the Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation Resolution Committee, with final resolutions reading at the KFBF Annual Meeting in December, (1) We strongly recommend the widening and increase of weight-limit restrictions of our state and county bridges for safety issues. (2) We continue to oppose the freezing of the state property tax rate. We continue to support the 1979 House Bill 44 in its original form. (3) We strongly recommend removal of the black vulture from protected status. (4) We oppose the concept of centralized voting. (5) We oppose trans-gender dressing rooms and restrooms in public and private schools.
