RELEASE
LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY, September 29, 2006: Courtney Lassiter, anchor/reporter for WBKO-TV, Bowling Green, has been named recipient of Kentucky Farm Bureau’s 2006 communications award for a broadcaster.
She was presented the award today at the fall convention of the Kentucky Broadcasters Association at Lake Barkley State Resort Park.
The Farm Bureau communications award consists of an engraved plaque, a $300 cash award, and an expense paid trip to Washington D.C for the annual Farm Bureau Congressional Tour.
It has been presented by Farm Bureau since 1960 to a broadcaster who has done exceptional work in building better relations and understanding between farmers and the non-farm public. A similar award is presented annually to a writer.
During her career at WBKO, Lassiter has built a solid reputation as a respected agricultural spokesperson. Her work relates how well she understands the importance of the individual producer and the diversity of agriculture to generate revenue for Kentucky. Lassiter has covered a variety of topics including the effects of weather on local producers, Agri-Tourism and Kentucky women in agriculture.
Her station, the ABC Network affiliate for south central Kentucky, gives her work distribution in an area where agriculture consistently rates as a top economic force. She can currently be seen each morning on AM Kentucky.
Lassiter grew up in Georgia, but was drawn to South Central Kentucky by Western Kentucky University's broadcasting department. Her first real experience in the business came in the form of an internship with WBKO-TV.
Later she spent a summer working for WSB-TV, one of ABC's flagship stations in Atlanta, giving her access to some of the most respected and admired journalists in the business. After finishing her second internship, she joined the WBKO news team in October of 2004 as the weekend anchor.
Lassiter considers Marietta, Georgia her home, although her parents retired and moved to the North Georgia Mountains. Her fraternal twin is a high school history teacher in Georgia and her brother is a Marine living in Moscow, Russia at the U.S. Embassy.
