Eight Kentucky sports veterans have been inducted into the
Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame.
The inductees were honored during a Hall of Fame Banquet, held September
9 in Louisville.
The banquet, sponsored by Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance, raised $30,000
to provide financial support to Kosair Charities throughout Kentucky and
southern Indiana.
This year’s inductees include:
- Doug Buffone, former linebacker and baseball player for the University
of Louisville;
- Howie Crittenden, a high school basketball legend from Cuba, KY;
- Jimmy Felix, former head football coach and athletic director for
the Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers;
- Don Lane, former Transylvania University basketball coach;
- Jim McDaniels, named Kentucky’s “Mr. Basketball”
in 1967 and went on to lead Western Kentucky to its only appearance
in the NCAA Final Four;
- Tamara McKinney, Lexington native and one of the greatest women’s
ski racers in U.S. history;
- Tom Meeker, president of Churchill Downs since 1984;
- Ukari Figgs Moore, former player for Scott County High School, and
the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks;
- Bill Spivey, former University of Kentucky basketball star during
the “Rupp Years”.
