Elisha Cooper Receives Kentucky Farm Bureau’s
Paul D. Everman Fund for Lifetime Learning Scholarship
LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY: A Livingston County substitute teacher
and mother of four who is pursuing a B.S. degree in agriculture, has been
awarded the Paul D. Everman Fund for Lifetime Learning Scholarship from
Kentucky Farm Bureau.
Elisha Cooper, Smithland, is the recipient of the $3,000 scholarship,
named in honor of the former Kentucky Farm Bureau executive vice president
who passed away in 2002.
The scholarship is awarded annually to a Farm Bureau member who has returned
to college, after an absence, to pursue a 4-year degree. Elisha is enrolled
as an animal science major at Murray State University.
Cooper, a Kentucky native, has lived with her family in Taiwan, where
she assisted students improve their English skills, and in Georgia where
she and her husband operated a business.
The family returned to Kentucky in 2002, and for the past 18 months she
has worked as a substitute teacher in the county schools. In addition
to attending college this fall, Cooper will serve as the treasurer for
the Smithland Elementary PTO.
About returning to school after all these years, Cooper says…”Completing
my education will financially enable me to help meet the needs of our
family. In addition, I hope that through my pursuit, I will instill strong
values in my children as to the importance of obtaining an education and
to never give up on their dreams.”
Farm Bureau awards the lifetime learning grant on an annual basis to a
non-traditional student who returns to college after interrupting or delaying
studies because of work or family responsibilities.
