Sixty students
chosen
for Farm Bureau scholarships
Sixty Kentucky high school seniors have been chosen to receive scholarship
grants from programs administered through the Kentucky Farm Bureau Education
Foundation.
The recipients were selected from 496 applicants throughout the state.
This is the 51st year that the Farm Bureau foundation has distributed
college aid money to Kentucky students. These grants have gone to more
than 620 youngsters.
Recipients and the scholarship sponsors are as follows:
William R. Sprague Scholarship, $4,000
*Lauren Amber Cook, 18, of Caldwell County High School. She plans to attend
Vanderbilt University, majoring in Chemical Engineering with an emphasis
in agriculture. She is the daughter of Rex and Teresa Cook of Princeton.
Kentucky Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company, $2,000 each
*Melissa Gayle Bridges, 18, of Graves County High School. The
daughter of Chris and Cindy Bridges of Mayfield, she plans to attend Murray
State University to major in Education.
*Jesse Duke Welte, 17, of Maysville St. Patrick High School. He plans
to major in Political Science at the University of Louisville. He is the
son of Richard and Chong Welte of Maysville.
Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance Agents Association, $2,000
*Jeremy Todd Bowling, 18, of Clay County High School. He plans to major
in Biology at the University of Kentucky. He is the son of Edward and
Sandra Bowling of Manchester.
Monroe County Farm Bureau, $1,000 each
*Jeremy Steven Myatt, 18, of Monroe County High School. He plans to attend
Western Kentucky University, to major in Ag Education. He is the son of
Steve Myatt of Tompkinsville.
*Sarah Jane Harlan, 18, of Monroe County High School. The daughter of
John and Janice Harlan of Tompkinsville, she plans to attend Western Kentucky
University, majoring in Public Relations.
Warren County Farm Bureau, $4,000 each
*Thomas Whit Potter, 17, of Warren Central High School. He plans to attend
Western Kentucky University to major in Mechanical Engineering. He is
the son of Marty and Kris Potter of Rockfield.
*Christi Beth Pearson, 18, of Greenwood High School. The daughter of Rita
Pearson of Alvaton, she plans to attend Western Kentucky University.
Whitley County Farm Bureau, $2,000
*Elizabeth Anne Barnhill, 18, of Williamsburg High School. She plans to
attend Eastern Kentucky University, to major in History. Parents are William
and Muriel Barnhill of Corbin.
Russell County Farm Bureau, $1,000
*Brittany Lynne Loveless, 18, of Russell County High School. She plans
to attend the University of Kentucky, majoring in Pre-Med. She is the
daughter of Frank and Brenda Loveless of Russell Springs.
Bullitt County Farm Bureau, $2,000 each
*Morgan Elizabeth Hamilton, 18, of Bullitt East High School. She plans
to attend the University of Louisville, to major in Pre-Med. She is the
daughter of Bard and Sheri Hamilton of Mount Washington.
*Michael Anthony Faust, 18, of Bullitt East High School. The son of Bruce
and Deborah Faust of Shepherdsville, he plans to attend the University
of Louisville, to major in Civil Engineering.
Laurel County Farm Bureau, $2,000
*Joshua Adam Bales, 18, of South Laurel High School. He plans to attend
the University of Kentucky, majoring in Psychology. Parents are Richard
and Laura Bales of London.
Hopkins County Farm Bureau, $2,000
*Andrew Darel Gates, 18, of Hopkins County Central High School. He plans
to attend Kentucky Wesleyan College, to major in pre-Optometry. He is
the son of Darel and Marilyn Gates of Madisonville.
*Tina Faye Gates, 17, of Madisonville-North Hopkins High School. The daughter
of Karren and Danny Gates of Hanson, she plans to attend Madisonville
Community College, to major in Elementary Education.
McCracken County Farm Bureau, $1,000 each
*Allison Michelle Culp, 17, of Paducah St. Mary High School. She plans
to attend West Kentucky Community College. She is the daughter of Bernadette
Culp of Boaz.
*Chlodys Elizabeth Johnstone, 18, of Lone Oak High School. The daughter
of Fraser and Tammy Johnstone of Paducah, she plans to attend the University
of Kentucky.
Christian County Farm Bureau, $1,000 each
*Sara Kate Gilliland, 17, of Christian County High School. She plans to
attend Western Kentucky University. She is the daughter of Tim and Julie
Gilliland of Hopkinsville.
*Julianna Leigh Staples, 18, of Christian County High School. She plans
to pursue a degree in Medicine. Parents are Richard and Deanna Staples
of Hopkinsville.
Shelby County Farm Bureau, $1,000 each
*Emily Snider Wright, 18, of Shelby County High School. She plans to attend
the University of Kentucky, majoring in English. She is the daughter of
Thomas Wright of Shelbyville.
*Katy Rae Mershon, 18, of Shelby County High School. She plans to attend
the University of Kentucky. Parents are Rende and Candace Mershon of Frankfort.
Webster County Farm Bureau, $500 each
*Kaleb Allen Tapp, 18, of Webster County High School. He plans to attend
Murray State University, majoring in Ag Engineering. He is the son of
Greg and Kris Tapp of Sebree.
*Michelle Renae Wilkerson, 18, of Webster County High School. She plans
to attend Madisonville Community College, to major in pre-Med. Parents
are Darryl and Patricia Wilkerson of Dixon.
Spencer County Farm Bureau, $1,000
*Erin Lindsey Holaday, 18, of Spencer County High School. She plans to
attend Bellarmine University, majoring in Elementary Education. She is
the daughter of Steven and Gloria of Taylorsville.
*Daniel Lynn Jordan, 17, of Spencer County High School. He plans to attend
the University of Kentucky, majoring in Ag Economics. He is the son of
Elizabeth Jordan of Taylorsville. Jordan also received the Earl Welborn
$1,000 scholarship sponsored by the Kentucky Corn Growers Association
and the Spencer County Farm Bureau.
Crittenden County Farm Bureau, $500
*Shera Cody Whitt, 18, of Crittenden County High School. She plans to
attend Murray State University. She is the daughter of Stewart and Brenda
Whitt of Marion.
Boone County Farm Bureau, $1,000
*Ryan Bradford Hillenbrand, 18, of Erlanger St. Henry High School. The
son of Urb and Connie Hillenbrand of Burlington, he plans to attend the
University of Kentucky, to major in Plant and Soil Science.
Mercer County Farm Bureau, $1,000
*Lee Ann Lynn, 18, of Mercer County High School. She plans to attend the
University of Cincinnati, majoring in Medical Imaging Technology. She
is the daughter of Lee and Michelle Lynn of Harrodsburg.
Kentucky Farm Bureau Education Foundation, $1,000 each
*Joni Beth Lattus, 18, of Fulton County High School. The daughter of William
David and Sandra Lattus of Hickman, she plans to attend the University
of Kentucky.
*Samantha Louise Gratz, 18, of Shelby County High School. She plans to
attend Butler University, majoring in Psychology. Parents are William
and Caryn Gratz of Shelbyville.
*Caleb David Ragland, 17, of Shady Rest Academy. The son of David and
Debbie Ragland of Hodgenville, he plans to attend Bryan College, majoring
in Business.
*Ruth Anne Lee, 17, of Taylor County High School. She plans to attend
the University of Kentucky, majoring in Communications Disorders. Parents
are Don and Sharon Lee of Greensburg.
*Shannon Michelle Wade, 18, and Shelley Noelle Wade, 18, of Harrison County
High School. The twin daughters of Randy and Wanda Wade of Cynthiana,
they plan to attend the University of Kentucky, majoring in Animal Science.
*Ben Elliott Stewart, 19, of Ballard Memorial High School. He plans to
attend Centre College to major in Government. He is the son of Ken and
Susan Stewart of Lovelaceville.
*Jessi Lynn Weatherholt, 18, of Breckinridge County High School. The daughter
of Thomas and Theresa Weatherholt of Cloverport, she plans to attend Western
Kentucky University, majoring in Communications Disorders.
*Tyler David Guess, 18, of Crittenden County High School. He plans to
attend the University of Kentucky, majoring in pre-Pharmacy. Parents are
Baron and Patricia Guess of Marion.
*Austin Michael Ruffing, 18, of Bishop Brossart High School. He plans
to attend the University of Kentucky, majoring in Biology. He is the son
of Oscar P. III and Joni Ruffing of California.
*Allen Matthew Rust, 18, of Bishop Brossart High School. The son of
Steve and Mary Beth Rust of California, he plans to attend the University
of Kentucky, majoring in Civil Engineering.
*Kristopher Ray Kelley, 18, Carlisle County High School. He plans to attend
Washington University in St. Louis, majoring in Engineering. He is the
son of Steve and Melanie Kelley of Bardwell.
*James Channing Richardson, 18, of East Carter High School. The son of
Jane Lynn Felty of Grayson, he plans to attend Morehead State University,
majoring in Wildlife Biology.
*Britni Blake Barnett, 18, of Estill County High School. He plans to attend
the University of Kentucky, to major in Psychology. Parents are Delmer
and Janet Barnett of Irvine.
*Jonathan E. Bryant, 17, of Bryant Academy. He plans to attend Bryan College,
majoring in Political Science and Communications. He is the son of John
and Denise Bryant of Winchester.
*Katie Marie Clark, 18, of Green County High School. The daughter of Chris
and Mary Alice Clark of Greensburg, she plans to attend the University
of Kentucky to major in an agriculture-related field.
*Rebecca Ann Williams, 18, of Raceland High School. She plans to attend
Transylvania University, majoring in Biology. Parents are Raymond and
Margaret Williams of Worthington.
*Jeremy Ryan Bonzo, 18, of Raceland High School. The son of Jim Bob and
Kim Bonzo of Wurtland, he plans to attend the University of Kentucky,
majoring in Animal Science or pre-Veterinary Medicine.
*Michael Timothy Duncan, 18, of Henderson County High School. He plans
to attend Western Kentucky University, to major in Journalism. Parents
are Tim and Judy Duncan of Henderson.
*Rachel Faith Frazier, 18, of Lawrence County High School. She plans to
attend Georgetown College. Parents are Ricky and Susan Frazier of Louisa.
*Matthew Allen Anderson, 17, of Lincoln County High School. The son
of Warren and Susan Anderson of Hustonville, he plans to attend the University
of Kentucky, majoring in Ag Economics.
*Savannah Raye Walker, 18, of Magoffin County High School. She plans to
attend Transylvania University, majoring in Political Science. Parents
are Bobby Walker and Lisa Patrick of Salyersville.
*Zachary Paul Bittner, 18, of Heath High School. He plans to attend the
University of Kentucky, majoring in Chemical Engineering. He is the son
of Paul and Glenda Bittner of West Paducah.
*Mark Alan Sandefur, 18, of McLean County High School. The son of Billy
and Janet Sandefur of Calhoun, he plans to attend Western Kentucky University,
to major in Biology.
*Sarah Elizabeth Sheeran, 18, of Meade County High School. She plans to
attend Centre College, majoring in pre-Law. Parents are Paul and Sheri
Sheeran of Vine Grove.
*Daniel Caden Crowell, 17, of Mercer County High School. He plans to attend
either Harvard University or the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
He is the son of Alan and Lorrie Crowell of Salvisa.
*Andrew Scott Piper, 18, of Metcalfe County High School. The son of Pam
Rock, he plans to attend Western Kentucky University.
*Kevin Hayes Wilson, 18, of Shelby County High School. He plans to attend
the University of Michigan, to major in Math. Parents are Robert and Patricia
Wilson of Shelbyville.
*Melanie Lynn Hartzel, 18, of Pendleton County High School. She plans
to attend Northern Kentucky University, majoring in Early Childhood Education.
She is the daughter of Margie J. Hartzel of Foster.
*Cara Louise Childers, 18, of Southwestern High School in Pulaski County.
She plans to attend the University of Kentucky, to major in Biology. She
is the daughter of Louie and Cathy Childers of Somerset.
*Jessica Lynn Martin, 17, of Lexington Sayre High School. She plans
to attend Davidson College, majoring in Economics. Parents are D. Lynn
and Martha Martin of Midway.
*Sara Leila Pourheydarian, 18, of Marion County High School. She plans
to attend Hanover College, majoring in Biology. She is the daughter of
Mohammad Pourheydarian and Wanda Vega of Campbellsville.
