At the age of 17, Travis rented a 320-acre farm, on a 50-50 basis with a family friend. Later that year, he began purchasing his own equipment and 13 years later, he purchased the farm where he and his family currently reside, raising tobacco, corn, soybeans, wheat, pumpkins and alfalfa hay.
Travis is active in agriculture issues at the national, state and local levels, serving on the board of directors for Kentucky Farm Bureau and other agriculture and community related organizations.
As the winner, he will represent Kentucky in the Southeastern Farmer of the Year contest, which is sponsored by Swisher International (maker of Swisher Sweets cigars) and the Sunbelt Agricultural Exposition.
Travis and his wife, Robbie, have three children: Collin, Cameron, and Conner.
