LOUISVILLE, KY, January 7, 2008: Kentucky Farm Bureau has nine appointees and an equal number of alternates to American Farm Bureau's commodity advisory committees.
The committees are designed to provide farmers and ranchers, serving as a committee within the Farm Bureau organizational structure, the opportunity to discuss and recommend solutions to problems that directly affect the commodity for which the member is appointed.
The committees' focus and purpose includes:
- Identifying emerging issues related to the specific industry;
- Recommending issues for policy development, not addressed by current policy;
- Identifying challenges related to production and marketing of commodities; and
- At the direction of the AFBF president or board of directors, offering suggestions or clarification of existing policies.
The committees serve in an advisory capacity to the president and AFBF board of directors.
Those representing Kentucky are Mark Haney of Nancy, ag nursery and greenhouse committee; Kelly Thurman of Livermore, dairy; James Mahan of Lexington, equine; Bige Hensley of Manchester, forestry; Terry Rowlett of Campbellsburg, hay and forage committee; Al Pedigo of Scottsville, labor: Danny Wilkinson of Columbia, swine; David Chappell of Owenton, tobacco; and Tripp Furches of Murray, wheat.
Alternates are Kenneth Imel, Greenup; John Kuegel, Jr., Owensboro; Frank Penn, Lexington; David McGlone, Grayson; J. Fritz Giesecke, Horse Cave; Paul Hornback, Shelbyville; Scott Travis, Cox's Creek; and Keith Tapp and Eddie Melton, Sebree.
