finished product. Six books in series.
FROM COTTON TO PANTS
Cotton grows on plants in clusters and when it is ripe it is
harvested. The cotton is spun into thread and woven into cloth.
Colors may be added or designs stamped on. The bolts are loaded
onto trucks and delivered to factories. Patterns are cut to fit
everyone before the cloth is cut. The seamstress sews the pieces
together following the pattern. The finished product is shipped
to stores.
FROM FRUIT TO JAM
Fresh fruit is gathered, sorted and cleaned. Sugar is added to
the fruit. In order to get juice, the mixture is cooked until it
is thickened. The hot jam is poured into jars and cooled before
it is sealed and sent to stores.
FROM GRAIN TO BREAD
The farmer plants the wheat in the field. Rain and sunshine
help the wheat to sprout and become ripe for harvest. It is
shipped to the mill to make flour before the baker can use it to
make bread, rolls and pretzels.
FROM GRASS TO BUTTER
The cow eats grass to produce milk. The farmer milks the cows
twice a day with special machines and the full milk cans are
taken to the dairy where the milk is pasteurized. A centrifuge
separates the skim milk from the cream and the sweet cream is put
into a butter machine. The butter is packaged and taken to
stores.
FROM MILK TO ICE CREAM
Milk from a cow is used to make ice cream. Sugar is added to
the milk and the mixture is heated and cooled before flavorings
are added. The thick paste is put into containers before
freezing. Refrigerated trucks then deliver the ice cream to
stores.
FROM SHEEP TO SCARF
Shepherds watch over sheep. During the summer months the sheep
